| Note |
John has a twin brother - George but nothing is known about him except that both boys are shown as 'Grocers Assistants' on the 1891 census. Were they working together and was this in Windsor? Their address at this time was 28 Gardners Cottages, Clewer, later to become Vansittart Street John married Minnie Nichols at the Holy Trinity Church in the parish of Northwood in the county of Middlesex on the 7th March 1900. His occupation is shown as Postman. How did he meet her? There are no direct train or other links to Northwood? Was she working in Windsor? His son Charles' birth certificate shows the address for John/Minnie as 95, Kings Road Windsor, Berks. Charles was born on the 31st October 1912. John's occupation is still shown as Postman. They were at this address in September 1909 when his mother Sophia died, but had moved by the time son Robert was born in 1918 as his birthplace is shown as Beckenham, Kent. Charles' son, Robin knows that John & Minnie had a grocers business in the New Cross area which failed because of bad debt by customers. Did John go into this business because of his previous occupation as a 'Grocers Assistant'. It seems the money for the business came after the death of Minnie's mother who appears to have been very wealthy, although it had to be shared amoungst a large number of children. John's death certificate shows his occupation as a Warehouseman. He died at an address other than his home address, was this a friend/hospital? He is buried in Streatham Park Cemetary grave No.17990 Square 10 which is supposed to be the family grave. John's sister Emily Lydia, married George Lilley at the same church but the connection is unknown especially as neither person seems to have come from the area, or was Emily a friend/employee of the Nichols family?
